Paris Hilton reveals Android Auto upgrades with Gemini AI and HD video

Paris Hilton is probably not the first person most people imagine when thinking about Android Auto, but that is exactly why Google put her at the centre of its latest software reveal. In a new promotional campaign filmed inside a Genesis GV80, Paris Hilton shows off Android Auto features including Gemini AI, customizable dashboards, HD video streaming and upgraded Google Maps visuals while joking about managing her chaotic schedule from behind the wheel. The campaign leans heavily into Hilton’s familiar hyper-glamorous personality, complete with pink sparkles, personalized widgets and “that’s hot” energy, but underneath the pop culture presentation sits one of the biggest Android Auto updates in years. And while there is a fair chance Paris Hilton is not personally spending hours configuring infotainment systems between errands, the collaboration does make sense because Google clearly wants Android Auto to feel more lifestyle-focused and personal rather than just functional.
Android Auto gets a lifestyle makeover with Paris Hilton
The new Android Auto redesign introduces Google’s Material 3 Expressive design language into the car, bringing customizable wallpapers, smoother animations and widgets directly onto the dashboard. Paris Hilton’s campaign specifically focuses on how drivers can personalize the interface to feel more like their own digital space rather than a generic car screen.
During the teaser, Hilton customizes photo widgets, changes dashboard aesthetics and jokes about adding pink sparkles across the cabin while navigating through the Android Auto system inside a Genesis GV80. It is playful and intentionally exaggerated, but it also highlights how heavily Google is pushing personalization as the next major battleground for in-car software.

Google Maps is receiving one of the biggest upgrades as part of the redesign. The new “Immersive Navigation” interface introduces a far more detailed 3D mapping system featuring terrain visualization, buildings, lane guidance, traffic lights and overpasses designed to make navigation easier to process quickly.
Google says the updated Google Maps system is its biggest navigation overhaul in more than a decade. The company wants Android Auto to feel less like a smartphone projection system and more like a genuinely integrated driving environment.

Widgets are another major addition to Android Auto. Drivers will be able to add shortcuts for weather, contacts, garage door openers and other functions directly onto the home screen while navigation remains active in the background.
The campaign also shows Paris Hilton using Gemini AI to manage messages while driving. In one sequence, she asks the assistant to identify a restaurant recommendation previously sent by her mother before automatically responding to a message arranging a date night.
Gemini AI and HD video transform the infotainment
Gemini AI is arguably the most important part of the Android Auto update because it dramatically expands what Google’s voice assistant can actually understand contextually. Rather than simply responding to isolated commands, Gemini AI can now reference messages, calendars and previous conversations to complete tasks more naturally.
Google says Android Auto will eventually support “Gemini Intelligence,” allowing the system to anticipate needs and proactively assist drivers. Food ordering through services like DoorDash is also coming directly into the interface, enabling drivers to place pickup orders entirely through voice commands.

Entertainment is expanding significantly too. Android Auto will soon support HD video streaming through apps like YouTube while parked or charging, effectively turning supported vehicles into mobile theatres.
Google confirmed supported cars from brands including Genesis, BMW, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo and Renault will receive full HD playback support later this year. Importantly, if the car starts moving, supported apps can transition seamlessly from video into audio-only playback instead of abruptly cutting off entirely.

Music apps including Spotify and YouTube Music are also receiving visual redesigns optimized specifically for larger in-car screens. Dolby Atmos spatial audio support is being added in supported vehicles too, pushing Android Auto further into premium entertainment territory.
The bigger story here is that Google clearly sees the dashboard becoming the next major digital ecosystem battle. Carmakers increasingly rely on software experiences to differentiate themselves, and Android Auto is evolving from a simple convenience feature into something much closer to a fully integrated operating platform.

That explains why the Paris Hilton partnership actually makes strategic sense despite sounding faintly absurd initially. Google wants Android Auto to feel fashionable, customizable and emotionally engaging rather than purely practical.
And honestly, there is something amusingly surreal about watching Paris Hilton casually use Gemini AI inside a Genesis GV80 while talking about HD video streaming and dashboard aesthetics. But behind the pop culture marketing moment sits a genuinely major update that could significantly change how people interact with cars over the next few years.
