Lexus has spent years building sensible hybrid crossovers for people who value quietness above excitement, but the 2027 Lexus TZ feels like the company finally deciding it wants a proper stake in the premium electric SUV arms race. Revealed as Lexus’ first-ever all-electric three-row SUV, the new Luxury SUV combines lounge-style comfort, a 300-mile driving range and an aggressively tech-focused cabin into what is clearly intended to become the brand’s flagship family-focused Electric SUV. More importantly, the 2027 Lexus TZ arrives at a moment when buyers are increasingly demanding that a Three-row SUV does more than simply carry extra passengers, especially in the luxury space where comfort and design now matter as much as practicality. Lexus clearly understands that, because almost every part of the 2027 Lexus TZ has been engineered to make sitting inside it feel more like entering a modern lounge than climbing into a traditional SUV.
2027 Lexus TZ pushes Lexus deeper into electric SUVs
The 2027 Lexus TZ is built on Lexus’ TNGA platform and will launch with two battery options, including a larger 95.82kWh pack on higher grades. Lexus says select versions of the Electric SUV will deliver a manufacturer-estimated range of around 300 miles.
Unlike many large EVs that prioritise efficiency above everything else, Lexus appears determined to preserve some level of driver engagement. Every version of the Three-row SUV comes standard with DIRECT4 all-wheel drive, while available Dynamic Rear Steering aims to improve agility and reduce body movement through corners.

That focus on ride comfort and stability forms the basis of what Lexus calls its “Driving Lounge” concept. The company repeatedly emphasises quietness, visibility and passenger comfort throughout the release, which honestly makes sense because silence has become one of the main selling points for modern luxury EVs.
Inside, the 2027 Lexus TZ leans heavily into minimalist luxury without becoming completely screen-obsessed. Lexus has integrated materials like Forged Bamboo trim and bio-based UltraSuede throughout the cabin, giving the Luxury SUV a more tactile and warm atmosphere than many rivals that rely almost entirely on glossy black surfaces.

The panoramic roof is another major talking point because it stretches across all three rows while still maintaining decent headroom thanks to a slim power sunshade system. Lexus says the roof was specifically designed to create a more open and relaxing environment for passengers sitting in the rear of the Three-row SUV.
Passenger comfort also appears unusually well considered for an Electric SUV in this segment. Available second-row ottoman seats, ventilated seating across multiple rows and sofa-inspired third-row cushioning suggest Lexus is targeting long-distance comfort as aggressively as outright technology features.

The latest Lexus Interface multimedia system also debuts in the 2027 Lexus TZ with updated graphics, faster processing and integrated EV routing functions. Wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and 5G connectivity all come included, alongside a Mark Levinson audio system featuring 21 speakers.
Luxury SUV blends comfort with surprisingly serious engineering
Underneath the soft-touch materials and ambient lighting, Lexus has packed the 2027 Lexus TZ with a surprisingly advanced chassis setup. Dynamic Rear Steering can adjust rear wheel angles by up to four degrees, helping the Luxury SUV remain stable at speed while reducing turning radius in tighter environments.
Lexus also paid significant attention to aerodynamic efficiency, which matters heavily for range performance in large electric vehicles. Flush door handles, aerodynamic mirrors, underbody airflow management and specially designed wheels help the Electric SUV achieve a drag coefficient of 0.27.

The all-wheel-drive system itself continuously varies torque distribution between the front and rear motors depending on driving conditions. Lexus says the setup can shift from 60:40 to fully rear-biased operation under acceleration and cornering to improve handling feel.
Interestingly, Lexus also included a dedicated REAR COMFORT driving mode specifically focused on reducing passenger movement in the second and third rows. That mode coordinates steering, braking and power delivery to minimise pitching and side-to-side body motion.

That sort of detail reveals what Lexus believes will separate the 2027 Lexus TZ from competitors. This is not being positioned as a hardcore performance EV or a technology showcase first, but rather as an Electric SUV designed around making passengers feel comfortable and isolated from the outside world.
The challenge, of course, is that the premium electric SUV segment is becoming brutally competitive. Rivals like the Kia EV9, Volvo EX90 and upcoming electric Range Rover already occupy parts of the same conversation, meaning Lexus needs more than just refinement to stand out.

Still, the 2027 Lexus TZ at least feels distinct in its approach. Rather than trying to make the Luxury SUV feel futuristic or overly aggressive, Lexus appears more interested in creating something calm, quiet and genuinely comfortable to live with.
That may not generate the same internet hype as a 1,000HP performance EV, but it probably aligns much more closely with what many luxury buyers actually want. And if Lexus can deliver the refinement levels it is promising here, the 2027 Lexus TZ could quietly become one of the most convincing Three-row SUV options in the electric market.
